![]() To assist consumers in making informed decisions about nursing home placements, the federal government developed a tool called Nursing Home Compare. It is administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Although it presents details on nursing home inspections across the country, it is not intended to be used as a recommendation to a particular facility, nor should it be the only resource you use to choose a nursing home. According to the CMS, "findings of inspections do not present a complete picture of the quality of care provided by the nursing home. The inspection measures whether the nursing home meets the minimum standard for a particular set of requirements. If a nursing home has no deficiencies, it means that it met the minimum standards at the time of the inspection. However, this information cannot be used to identify nursing homes that provide outstanding care." This list does not include senior housing, assisted living or home care organizations.
